The Magpie Consort is a group of 16 – 20 singers based in Columbus, Ohio. We perform a wide variety of repertoire, collected in magpie fashion from many parts of the world and from different musical traditions: medieval chants, sacred and secular Renaissance gems, folk song and world music arrangements, and contemporary compositions. We enjoy collaborating with instrumentalists and others – and we also like to include our audiences in making music.
Our December program, An American Christmas, was a medley of folk, gospel, jazz, and classical songs of the season, from many parts of the USA, and from the 18th century to the present.
Our spring program, Cornucopia, will be another all-American program, marking the 250th anniversary of the USA. Join us for a feast of choral classics (Aaron Copland, Florence Price, Moses Hogan, Randall Thompson), early American hymns, Appalachian folk songs, gospel, blues, spirituals, and other Americana. We’ll be joined by collaborative pianist Phil Brown Dupont and Cbus Jammers, a group of folk musicians affiliated with the Columbus Folk Music Society. It is going to be fun.
Updates will be posted on our concerts page. In the meantime, save the date for May 8 or May 9.
Our entire 2025 – 26 season is generously supported by the Greater Columbus Arts Council (GCAC).
To get reminders about all our performances, please join our email list for updates. We also welcome inquiries from anyone who would like to audition to join the group.
