Artistic Director



Sheena Phillips, composer and choral director, has a track record of working with amateur singers on a wide range of material from early music to contemporary writing of many flavors. She moved to Columbus in 2000 from Edinburgh, Scotland, where she founded the award-winning Rudsambee company of singers, and has directed the Magpie Consort since her arrival in Columbus.

Apart from directing the Magpies, Sheena is director of the Women's Chorale at Otterbein College, co-director of the Columbus Women's Chorus, and director of music at Summit on 16th United Methodist Church in the OSU campus area. She serves as Community Choir Repertoire & Standards Chair for the Ohio Choral Directors Association (OCDA).

Sheena ’s compositions are being commissioned and performed by many groups on both sides of the Atlantic, including:

- in the USA: the Choral Project (San Jose), Chicago A Cappella, Seattle Pro Musica, the South Bend Chamber Singers (Indiana), University of Alabama (Birmingham) Concert Choir, Calliope Women's Chorus (Minnesota), Hope College Chapel Choir (Michigan), Zephyr (Los Angeles)

- in the UK: the National Youth Choir of Scotland, Cappella Nova, the Dunedin Consort, Saffron Walden Choral Society, the Gathering Wave.

- in Ohio: the Lancaster Chorale, the Columbus Women’s Chorus, the Columbus Children’s Choir, the Knox Choraliers, First Congregational Church, and of course the Magpie Consort.
